Acting Veterans Affairs Secretary Sloan Gibson says officials have contacted 50,000 veterans across the country to get them off waiting lists and into clinics and are in the process of contacting 40,000 more. A report says more than 57,000 veterans have been waiting 90 days or more for their first VA medical appointments, and 64,000 more apparently never got appointments at all.

Federal officials say the twin birth rate rose 76 percent from 1980 through 2009. Researchers have attributed the increase to growing use of fertility drugs and treatments and more births to older women.

A truck driver's lack of sleep is being blamed for the highway crash that injured Tracy Morgan and killed another comedian in New Jersey.

Colorado's legal pot market hit a new high in April. Tens of thousands of people toked up on 4/20 -- the unofficial pot holiday. Tax figures released yesterday show the state's legal retail pot stores sold about 22 million bucks worth of weed in April. That's an increase of about 17 percent from March and up by about 58 percent from January, when marijuana became legal. Figures show the state collected more than five million bucks in taxes and fees from pot sales in April. Pot shops in Denver had long lines during the 4/20 weekend. And at least 30,000 people grooved at a city park for a marijuana celebration
 
According to a criminal complaint, Wal-Mart trucker Kevin Roper hadn't slept for more than 24 hours before the accident. Authorities say Roper apparently failed to slow for traffic ahead early Saturday in Cranbury Township and swerved at the last minute to avoid a crash. His big rig smashed into the back of Morgan's Mercedes limo bus, killing comedian James ``Jimmy Mack'' McNair.

Morgan, a former ``Saturday Night Live'' and ``30 Rock'' cast member, suffered a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs. He's expected to remain hospitalized for weeks.

Roper remains free after posting $50,000 bond. He's expected to appear in state court Wednesday.
 
 The attention is on U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and races for constitutional offices as voters cast ballots in the South Carolina primaries. Graham is seeking the GOP nomination for a third term but must get by six GOP primary challengers who say he's not conservative enough. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The Republican race for lieutenant governor in South Carolina features the son of a popular governor, a retired Kiawah Island developer, a former attorney general, and a retired Army chaplain. Voters will choose today between 4 candidates/ Mike Campbell, Pat McKinney, Henry McMaster and Ray Moore. 

South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis is seeking a second term against political newcomer Brian Adams. The winner of today's Republican primary essentially wins the job of chief financial officer. As in 2010, no Democrat is running.

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling says The Team is not for Sale...has pulled his support from a deal to sell the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer ...The $2 billion sale was negotiated by Sterling's wife Shelly after his racist remarks to a girlfriend were publicized and the NBA moved to oust him as owner. His attorney says Sterling will pursue a $1 billion federal lawsuit against the NBA.
