A release from Spartanburg Public Safety said that on April 8, a man went to 297 Westover Drive to try to purchase some furniture that had been advertised, and as soon as the he walked around the back of the house to see the furniture, the bogus seller struck him in the head with a handgun and stole his money.
On May 24, a man went to the same area in response to an ad about a motorcycle for sale, and when he walked around a house to look at the motorcycle, he was attacked by two men armed with handguns who stole his money and his cellphone.
Spartanburg Public Safety Department is reminding everyone to use extreme caution when responding to these type advertisements. They suggest meeting the seller at neutral location in a well-populated area with good lighting and taking someone along with you.
