Miss America is staying in Atlantic City.

Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri announced Friday that the next pageant will take place in the New Jersey shore resort on Sept. 14.

Preliminary competitions are scheduled over three nights at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall from Sept. 9 to 11.

Davuluri, a Syracuse, N.Y., native, was crowned Miss America in September. The pageant originated in Atlantic City in 1921 and spent six years in Las Vegas before returning to New Jersey last year.

Davuluri plans to use her Miss America scholarship to attend medical school.

The program will be televised by ABC.
The Main Street Resurfacing Project is scheduled to begin Sunday in Greenville. Crews will begin blocking off parking spaces at 8 p.m. each day. Streets will reopen at 7 a.m. each day. Georgia Power says its construction budget remains steady but could change in the future as it builds a nuclear plant near the South Carolina line with Georgia. Greenville County deputies are doing an internal review of the arrest of a man at a Greenville Wal-Mart that was captured on video. Several videos posted to the Internet appear to show officers punching the man several times after he was shocked with a Taser on Saturday afternoon.

The MTV Video Music Awards will open with a ``Bang.''

Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Jessie J will kick off Sunday's awards show with their new song, ``Bang Bang.'' It will be the first time the trio performs the Top 10 hit.

Grande and Minaj will also perform separately during the VMAs, to air live from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Beyonce is the top nominee and will compete for eight awards, including video of the year for ``Drunk in Love.'' She will also receive the Michael Jackson video vanguard award.
